CATCH for Schools K-8
CATCH for schools has never been better!
The CATCH Program for schools is based on the CDC coordinated school health model (as it relates to physical activity and diet) in which eight components work interactively to educate young people about and provide support for a healthful lifestyle. The eight components are: health education, physical education, health services, child nutrition services, counseling and psychological services, healthy school environment, health promotion for staff, and family/community involvement.
CATCH employs a holistic approach to child health promotion by targeting multiple aspects of the school environment and involves classroom teachers, Child Nutrition Services, physical education (PE) teachers, students and their families, and the broader school community in a wide range of health-promoting activities for all children.
The CATCH Program brings schools, families and communities together to teach children how to be healthy for a lifetime. CATCH is effective because healthy behaviors are reinforced through a coordinated approach-in the Classroom, Cafeteria, PE and at Home.
CATCH is research-based and proven to work. And, most importantly, CATCH makes nutrition learning and physical activity FUN!
The CATCH Group helps guides your school through implementation (training and materials) for both K-5 and Middle School. In addition, the CATCH Research and Training Team at The University of Texas have created a special Coordination Guide (see description on this page) to help schools through the process of implementation.

CATCH Elementary
The CATCH Program for K-5 focuses on coordinating four components: the Eat Smart school nutrition program, K-5 Classroom curriculum a Physical Education program, and a Family program. The Coordination of health messages between these four component areas is critical to positively impact children's knowledge and behavior.
For years, CATCH has guided thousands of schools and impacted millions of children in the process of learning how to be healthy for a lifetime. CATCH, the largest school-based health promotion study in the U.S., has demonstrated that behaviors such as eating foods high in saturated fat and physical inactivity can be changed.
CATCH K-5 has been proven to:
- * Reduced total fat and saturated fat content of school lunches
* Increased moderate-to-vigorous physical activity during P.E. classes
* Improved students' self-reported eating and physical activity behaviors
CATCH Middle School
CATCH Middle School is a program designed to promote physical activity and healthy food choices. CATCH employs a holistic approach to child health by targeting multiple aspects of the school environment and involving classroom teachers, school food service staff, physical education (PE) teachers, students' families, and the broader school community in a range of health promoting activities.

As an important enhancement to the CATCH Middle School program, we have incorporated the award winning HEADS UP science education program and the IMPACT physical activity program. HEADS UP was designed to excite middle and high school students about science, and places an emphasis on learning science concepts through health related examples.
CATCH Middle School has been proven to:
* Reduce TV viewing* Increase physical activity
*Increase healthy food consumption
* Show improvements in standardized academic achievement tes
