The Go for Health Series

Kindergarten through 5th Grade


CATCH Go For Health is based on Social Learning Theory which targets changes in specific environmental, personality and behavioral factors that influence children's health behavior. A sequential storyline throughout the curricula revolves around a group of cartoon characters, Hearty Heart and Friends . The characters teach students about necessary eating, physical activity and non-tobacco use habits which promote health. (complete descriptions below).

Jump Into Health-Kindergarten
Hearty Heart and his friends get your students off to a good start
with and keep them on a healthy path in the CATCH Go For Health Series.

A 10-session curriculum, which introduces children to the concepts
of "Everyday Foods" and "Sometimes Foods". Throughout the curriculum children also learn about benefits of fruits and vegetables, fiber, and doing more physical activity. Hands-on activities like learning how to make healthy snacks reinforces the concepts learned in the curriculum.






Hooray for Health-1st Grade

A continuation from the Kindergarten Curriculum that expands knowledge about ways to get your heart stronger, the importance of breakfast, and reinforcing the importance of fruits and vegetables. Activities such as learning healthy snack preparation are included.

Celebrate Health-2nd Grade

A 12-Session Curriculum that educates chilren about ways to identify hidden fats in foods, and several activities that continue teaching the children about physical activity and healthy eating.

The children are now becoming familiar with concepts anout health and physical activity. Even more important, they are learning that
eating healthy foods, and being physically active is fun and enjoyable.






Hearty Heart and Friends-3rd Grade
This great set includes the the curriculum guide and a DVD
entitled “The Adventures of Hearty Heart and Friends”.
Hearty Heart and his band of intergalactic health experts
guide your class through a 15-session program that
focuses on developing healthful eating and exercise habits.

Reinforcement of lessons and parent participation is encouraged with "Family Letters" and snack recipes that
are kid friendly are provided. The accompanying DVD
includes 9 episodes that feature role models (Hearty Heart, Dynamite Diet, Salt Sleuth, and Flash Fitness) with healthy nutrition lessons for children.


Taking Off-4th Grade
The Taking Off curriculum introduces a character named Tillie Tellstar, a reporter from Planet Strongheart, who interviews four Earthling 4th grade students about their ideas on being healthy. Through active involvement in classroom activities, students learn that healthful eating and physical
activity are the keys to a healthier lifestyle. They learn to select and prepare nutritious foods as well as how to identify MVPA.

The curriculum is divided into 13 nutrition and physical activity lessons,
each approximately 40 minutes long. It is designed to be implemented in sequence. The curriculum uses a variety of teaching strategies, including individual practice, cooperative learning groups, large-group discussions, role plays, educational games, goal setting, reports, projects, and hands-
on snack preparation and taste-testing.

Breaking Through Barriers -5th Grade
Easy-to-use instructional handouts and menu guides. Teacher's Manual:
240 pages. Includes CD of handouts and student worksheets in English
and Spanish. The curriculum is divided into 12 nutrition and physical activity lessons, each 40-45 minutes. The curriculum employs a variety of educational strategies including individual practice, cooperative learning, large group discussions, goal setting and hands on activities. Your
students will learn to identify barriers to healthful living, and practice ways
to overcome them.
